Lokkit Chiu (he/him) – Lab Manager
Lokkit is a fifth-year undergraduate student pursuing a B.A. in Psychology at the University of British Columbia. He first joined the DAS Lab as a Research Assistant, later served as the CAD Study Coordinator, and now supports the lab as Lab Manager.
His research in the DAS Lab focuses on understanding the protective and risk factors for depression and anxiety across cultural contexts. He is also interested in exploring how artificial intelligence and large language models can be used responsibly to support psychological research, assessment, and intervention.
In the future, Lokkit aims to become a clinical psychologist conducting research that advances our understanding of mental health and psychological well-being, with the goal of informing more effective intervention and treatment. He is also passionate about reducing stigma around seeking mental health support and translating psychological research into accessible knowledge for the public.
Julian Cai (he/him) – Lab Manager
Julian is a fifth-year student working towards a B.A. (Honours) in Psychology. At the DAS Lab, he started as an RA and later became the Confederate Coordinator prior to taking on the Lab Manager position.
His research outside of the DAS lab explores how an individual’s sense of identity relates to their psychological well-being and distress. He is particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms and impacts of identity-related concerns in young adults. Ultimately, he hopes that this research can contribute to both better treatment of identity distress and the promotion of positive psychological growth.
In the future, he aims to become a practicing psychologist that prioritizes personalization of care to help individuals develop a sense of personal meaning and agency in their lives. In addition, he is passionate about supporting traditionally underrepresented populations in therapy.
