We are so lucky to have had a visit from colleagues Dr. Xinli Chi and Dr. Peichao Zhang from Shenzhen University. We are collaborating with them on the Culture, Anxiety, and Depression (CAD) Study!
The CAD study is an international collaboration between the DAS lab here at UBC and Dr. Xinli Chi and her lab in Shenzhen University. Through this research, we are interested in understanding cross-cultural differences in the relationship between depression, anxiety, and their psychosocial risk factors over time. This study spans one academic year in order to capture the unique trajectories and changes in vulnerability and stressors students may face over their time at university. We are interested in nuanced differences within a culture, and are comparing these measures among Chinese international students studying in Canada, Chinese-Canadian students born or who have grown up in Canada, and Chinese students in China. We hope to provide important insights on the different (and shared) psychosocial factors contributing to mental health for these students within different educational and cultural contexts.
